English and at GCSE or A Level is one subject that has very flimsy boarders and spills over to any writing and language rich subject such as Geography, Media, RE, Philosophy... Even science needs a competent grasp of English, or more correctly, communications and the ability to write, read, comprehend, analyse, speak, argue, think effectively, listen and also understanding visual literacy. It is a big subject and perhaps it should be broken down into more simple components.
